JVS Learning Solutions™ is a highly engaging and interactive CD-ROM/Internet based multi-media educational experience. At the heart of each course is the Interactive Notebook. With the help of an intuitive interface, learners can view the course syllabus, their text notes, assignments, grades, and messages from other course participants. In addition, students may gather information they may wish to refer to later from any portion of the course and capture it into their notebooks. Learning occurs through a number of components built into the CD. First, the Lecture Room contains a videotaped lecturer presenting the course content. Role play scenarios illustrate concepts and stimulate thought, and individuals asking questions simulate a classroom environment. The Textbook contains written text, audio voiceover, interactive elements and animations to emphasize the content presented in the lecture and to add supplemental information. The private Bulletin Board and Chat Room add necessary learner interaction elements where the user can pose and answer questions, conduct research, and chat with other participants and the instructor in real-time about various course related topics. A customized log-in feature captures information about the specific course modules studied and the amounts of time spent in each section, allowing instructors to easily monitor a learner’s progress through each course. Instructors can add helpful comments and grade completed Assignments and Assessments that occur throughout each course to help measure student progress, and which the learner can view at his or her next study session. The instructor is available online to respond to questions, problems, or computer issues and may lead or participate in chat room discussions. The instructor may, if scheduling permits, also schedule in-person sessions for a blended learning experience. Foreign Language Glossaries of key terms provide Spanish-English and French-English translations to facilitate learning for students with limited English proficiency.
