Work First Employment Program


In cooperation with the Essex County Workforce Investment Board (WIB), Department of Citizen Services and the Division of Employment Training, JVS provides a comprehensive education, job readiness training and job placement program for residents receiving public assistance. This program is part of the State's Work First "Welfare To Work" initiative. JVS program components include:

Initial Assessment/Intake
Individual/Group Vocational Counseling
Alternative Work Experience (AWEP)
Classroom Education/Training
Adult Basic Education/Pre-GED
English as a Second language (ESL)
Job Readiness Training
Community Work Experience (CWEP) in Nonprofit or Government Agencies
Competitive Employments
Follow-up for Job Retention
